Mission Statement

"Our mission is to build the software infrastructure and applications that enable decoding, display, recording and delivery of rich content to Digital Entertainment Systems while maintaining interoperability, unprecedented ease of use and content protection using open standards".

With a tidal wave of High Definition TVs, HD Set Top Boxes, Digital Video Recorders, Blue Ray players, HD and DV cameras, game stations, etc. entering the market, CE and STB manufacturers are faced with the daunting task of developing expensive and complex software while simultaneously trying to compete on cost and time-to-market. Software development costs far exceed hardware development costs particularly when most of the hardware is integrated into a single System On a Chip (SOC). CE manufacturers on the other hand demand more and more complex software from SOC manufacturers while constantly negotiating for lower prices per SOC.

With the advent of tru2way™ (also know as Open Cable), the already complex software has multiplied in complexity. While the software is based on open standards, there are many specific standards to implement on a single device, such as tru2way™ Cable STB or HDTV, which significantly increases the entry barriers and costs for STB and HDTV manufacturers.

While the devices are by themselves complex to develop, the need to seamlessly interconnect these devices and interoperate in the home is very critical. The consumer is bewildered with the overwhelming number of remote controls, video formats and set up needed to interconnect the devices. CE companies find it difficult and time consuming to support multiple Decoder SOC on different OS and develop the needed tru2way and networking software, ATSC, CableCard, OCAP, DOCSIS, Closed Captioning, etc. software by themselves.

VividLogic software reduces system complexity by pre-integration with popular HD Decoders, provides interoperability by plug festing, compliance testing and CableLabs Testing and accelerates time-to-market by offering a complete solution.

VividLogic Develops and Licenses the Following Technologies:

Home Networking Technologies

IEEE-1394 and 5C (DTCP) Technology

  • VividLogic has successfully implemented IEEE-1394, 5C content protection and HAVi software (brand name FireBUS™), that runs on several commercially available platforms
  • More than 5 million STBs and 2.5 million HD-TVs from premium CE and STB companies have been deployed with FireBUS and/or our HAVi stack. VividLogic licensees include Scientific Atlanta, Pace, HP, Mitsubishi, Hitachi, Fujitsu, Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer, Funai, Epson and many more.
  • VividLogic has a strong established relationship with CableLabs since 2002 with the development and delivery of IEEE 1394 compliance testing suite to CableLabs. VividLogic has developed all the IEEE-1394 compliance test cases for CableLabs
  • DTCP/IP and DTCP-1394 software – VividLogic is the leading provider of DTCP software for content protection. VividLogic develops both DTCP over IEEE 1394 networks and over IP networks.

DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) and UPNP (Universal Plug and Play)

  • VividLogic has also implemented and licensed UPNP software to CE companies. The software is DLNA compliant and was developed in collaboration with Pioneer and released in Pioneer Blue Ray players.

HANA (High definition Audio Video Network Alliance)

  • VividLogic is a member of HANA consortium and has made significant contributions to the development and testing of the CEA-2027A specification. VividLogic has developed HANA simulators and complete HANA stacks for HDTV, STB, AVHDD and Network Interface Units.

HAVi (Home Audio Video interoperability)

  • VividLogic is a significant contributor to the HAVi specification and has implemented the HAVi specification on HDTV and deployed it in the US market. Premiere HDTV companies such as Mitsubishi have deployed the software in several million HDTV.

Tru2way™ Technologies (aka Open Cable)

  • Development was started in 2005
  • The software has since been used in HD-TV (Mitsubishi, Pioneer and others not announced) plus in cable STB such as Funai and others not announced. The software is also being ported to Sigma Design and to future Intel SOC. First showing of our OCAP was performed at CES-06 on the several platforms
  • The software also has been used for BOCR (Bidirectional Open Cable Receiver) a cable card based device with Cable Front-end that connects to the Media Center PC and provides Cable Services.
  • VividLogic OCAP software includes MHP software, DAVIC, HAVi Level-2 GUI, OCAP and several other Java components.
  • At CES-08, Comcast chose VividLogic tru2way software running on Funai STB to demonstrate the latest Comcast HD EPG (Guide) prototype application at their private Suite and in the TV Guide booth on the show floor
  • VividLogic has close relationships with many key companies such as Guideworks (Comcast), Moxi (Digeo), Weather Channel, VOD developers and other OCAP application developers.

ATSC Technology for Regular HDTV and Tru2way HDTV

  • VividLogic’s comprehensive software infrastructure and applications for HDTV cover the following:
    • ATSC software stack that includes PSIP, Closed Caption, Parental Controls and EAS message
    • Complete Tru2way Software for HDTV that includes OCAP 1.0.1, Cable Card software (Multi Tuner Cable Card)
    • all software required for Open Cable Host devices 2.0 such as OCAP, MCARD, DSG, and Common Download, EAS messages, Closed Captioning, SNMP, IEEE 1394 and a large set of OCHD 2.0 software requirements.
  • VividLogic currently supports many platforms/reference designs of SOC vendor such as Broadcom, AMD, Sigma Design, Intel and others under NDA.

Recording Software

  • VividLogic specializes in developing Digital Video Recording software for time shift and time deferred viewing of ATSC and QAM streams. VividLogic’s DVR software is integrated with its Tru2way STB software and has an OCAP compliant DVR API.
  • VividLogic also developed home recording software called the DTV Recorder software that allows recording of clear content from any HDTV or STB onto a PC over IEEE 1394.
